Mia's Journey

Mia has been diagnosed with metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD). A genetic disorder in which there is a deficiency of enzymes and inability to remove toxins from the brain...resulting in demyelination of the white matter of the brain (progressive brain damage).

For an explanation of the diagnosis see: http://www.mldfoundation.org/

Mia's treatment started this past February.  The whole family moved from LaCrosse, WI to the Ronald McDonald house in Minneapolis.  Mia has undergone chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.  She will have quite an extensive stay in the hospital as she is working on rebuilding her immune system.   So far treatment has been going very well and we are continuing our prayers for her and the family.

Prayer requests:
Please pray that Mia's transplant will engraft successfully.
Please pray that Mia can feel as well as she possibly can.
Please pray that her caregivers can remain patient and provide the comforting that she needs.

Mia sure is a very brave 5 year old!  For more current updates on Mia's treatments please visit:  http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/miarabeoeltjen
